Resource Description Interface (RDI)

We desire a paradigm for distributed resources

OS's had local paradigms:

Multics = all the world is segments
Unix = all the world is files
Mach = all the world is ports

RDI = all the world is "communication"

Richer than ports - describe communication parameters

Bandwidth
Latency
Available storage
Processing load
Permanence (disk vs. RAM)
Ownership (security, control)
