SPT – Scalable Personal Teleconferencing

The goal of the SPT project is to provide the basis for wide spread use of multicast based teleconferencing in the Internet, including directory tools, session control tools, and prototype implementations.

DIME was part of USC/ISI’s Teranode Network Technology project.

  • To provide support for the full range of session sizes and modes, from small private meetings to broadcasts of workshops and conferences through a scalable session management atchitecture and protocols.
  • To promote interoperation of the session manager and conferencing tools (for example, audio, video, and whiteboard)across a variety of platforms including PCs, Macs, and Unix workstations.
  • To allow teleconferencing access and multicast support across firewalls, and teleconferencing gateways between traditional circuit-based systems.
